Species Composition and Biting Activities of Mosquitoes in a Selected Community in Anambra State, Southeast Nigeria

Mosquitoes are common biting and sucking arthropods whose females bite man animals for their blood meal which leads to itching causes diseases. The study investigated the species composition activities of mosquitoes at Ifite-Awka, Awka South Local Government Area, Anambra State, south east Nigeria. was carried out between November December, 2021 were collected using Human Landing Catch (HLC) Pyrethrum Spray Collection Method (PSC), whereas Larval Sampling (LS) method used collect immature stages mosquito. HLC from 5:00pm 8:00pm peak observed 5:45pm 7:00pm. A total 158 adult comprised 3 namely Culex quinquefasciatus, Anophles gambiae Mansonia africana. quinquefasciatus most abundant irrespective collection attributed anthropohilic, endophagic endophilic nature. (PKC) produced highest 120 constitute 75.83% (91/158) 22.5% (27/158) Anopheles 1.66% (2/158) caught two different 89.29% (25/28) africana 10.71% (3/28). 10 quinquefasciatus. Although there no significant difference among methods (p>0.05), but in distribution species, a (p<0.05) seven (7) lodges sampled. high exposure possibility epidemics mosquito - borne diseases Ifite-Awka residents. need proper health education, immediate effective control measures vectors, includes environmental sanitation is highly advised.
